Philosophy

My philosophy is rooted in the Bible, shaping how I live, work, and serve others.

AI Philosophy

Written under the Biblical view that the Bible is the inspired Word of God, and that as it states, God is the creator of all and that He is good.

The human element in understanding this debate is so crucial, because every person is God-breathed and He has spawned all life in existence. As He is a creator and we are created in his image, we also create. AI is a form of us creating but I think it’s important to understand that AI didn’t just appear, it was created by people. Machines aren’t created from a lesser power, but a greater power; man. Humans aren’t created by a lesser power but a greater power; God.

God>Man>AI
Higher power creates lesser power.

You may be thinking, is AI a lesser power or a greater power? Can’t it make creations better than people? Can’t a calculator calculate faster and more accurately than a person? Can’t a computer multitask? Think about how inventions from the beginning of time have made life better or easier for us. What about a telescope increasing our vision or a skid steer increasing our strength, a shovel increasing our leverage, and a bucket increasing our ability to carry water?

You cannot attribute a will to a machine or a dream or an ambition or love or emotions. You can program in a randomizer, but it will never have a soul or be a person. There is no remorse from a person when destroying a computer and you will not receive a harsh sentence. Because they are not and never will be people or attain the value that a person has.

The emotion that an AI can portray is as real as a painting of someone crying. The emotion is only perceived because it is created by a person programming the machine on what an emotional person looks like so it copies what it has seen. The stories, programs, code and facts that it can write is simply an assembly of items pulled into your view by the clever programming that people have created.

There are some negatives and positives to any creation of man. For one it removes hardship. Hardship is a major catalyst for producing strength and resilience in a person’s life. Though the use of machinery shouldn’t make a person lazier, it should push them to do more. An example of this is if Jeff decides he wants to get into landscaping but he only has a push mower, he will be limited to three yards a day. If he introduces a zturn it is to make the job go faster and make it easier, yet if he sticks to 3 yards a day when he can do 20 yards a day he will get very lazy.

Better machinery should always mean the ability to do more work. It should not be an excuse to get lazy. We should still have master painters (even though they will really stand out as masters in the coming years).

I am convinced that there is not a task we cannot build a machine to do. Even things that may not be on the tip of your mind. 100 years ago we built a machine that can tie a knot, a book can share the gospel, a robot can trim a tree, a prompt can paint a masterpiece with great detail.

This may be discouraging to you. It is for me as an artist that a painting that would take me a month to get to look good would look compositionally perfect in a matter of seconds by AI. My master art teacher worked on a painting for three years before he finished and published it. It hurts a little bit and feels as though I can be replaced. Though I don’t consider self-checkouts replacing people. Art seems more personal.

What encourages me is that if you take a look from high up, you will see people making the machine, prompting the machine, vetting its results if it’s an accurate attempt or not, and deciding if the results are beneficial and applicable. AI is not in this role and never will be because it is a lesser creation, it was created by us. This is the most encouraging thing to me.

People are infinitely more valuable than a machine. This may be hard for an ungenerate person to grasp, but when you find God and realize that Jesus Christ came to earth 2,000 plus years ago to die for the sin of the world and you believe in Him to save you, you will understand that people alone are eternal. Every soul that God created will continue on whether in hell or in heaven. Everything of the earth is temporary and will one day be melted with a fervent heat and there will be no remembrance of it. But souls will continue on forever.

When you give your life to Jesus your perspective on man-made creations, such as AI, will change. And you will see it as a useful tool, but be able to positively put it in its place, and instead see people as the most important.
